Hilliard Art Museum

Lafayette, Louisiana
2002–2004

The Paul and Lulu Hilliard Art Museum is located at a gateway to the University of Louisiana Lafayette campus, facing a sculpture garden and a reproduction plantation house designed by noted regional architect A. Hayes Town. The building exterior is composed of a glazed glass curtain wall which presents a reflective backdrop to the plantation house structure and a sleek flank to visitors entering the museum from the street. The gallery and support spaces are designed to the highest curatorial standards, with limestone and maple floors that lead through classically proportioned gallery volumes. The museum provides 5,000 sf of changing exhibition space within a total area of over 30,000 sf.
