Louisiana State Museum

Baton Rouge, Louisiana
1999 – 2004

The Louisiana State Museum is a cultural and educational facility designed to present visitors with a comprehensive history of the State of Louisiana. From its prominent location within the Capitol Park, the museum uses covered terraces and modulated exterior views to visually connect  the museum with the State Capitol, the adjacent Capitol Gardens and the environs of the Mississippi River. The 70,000 sf structure is composed predominantly of large exhibition galleries surrounding a glazed central lobby and a 200 seat auditorium. The museum’s concrete, glass and metal exterior responds to a context of government structures while distinguishing the museum as a cultural entity.
